about SERF

The Shoulder & Elbow Research Forum (SERF) is a forum for like-minded Shoulder & Elbow specialists to share ideas, information, resources and provide support for the benefit of their patients.

The aims of the Society are:-

  1. To collaborate on audits and research projects
  2. To share resources to assist local projects and audits
  3. Support members by providing clinical advice and resources
  4. To provide information on the latest techniques and products
  5. To encourage critical analysis of the current literature
  6. To improve collective knowledge of the group's members
  7. To develop a social professional network

SERF comprises small group meetings, an online case discussion forum and newsletters.

The online Case Discussion Forum - www.shoulderdoc.co.uk/serf

  • Only SERF members have access to this forum, which is secure and available to all SERF members.
  • Any member can add a case for discussion and add comments. All patient identifying information must be removed.
  • The discussions are both email and web-based
  • The site was developed and is maintained by Shoulderdoc.co.uk.

SERF Group Meetings:

  • A SERF Group is a small group of local (regional) specialists
  • Groups must be small to ensure interactivity and participation
  • No more than eight SERF members in a Group.
    • If the numbers of interested local specialists exceeds eight a second group should be formed. Group members can swop a slot with member in another group, but numbers at each meeting should not exceed eight.
  • Each member may bring one guest (a trainee or therapist)
  • Two Expert Guests can be invited to each meeting.
  • The meetings are held every three months (four per year).
  • The format of the meeting can be flexible, but should include participation from all group members as much as possible.
  • Meetings may be sponsored by Mitek, who are allowed four representatives at each meeting.
  • The sponsor (Mitek) cannot influence or control the contents of the meeting.
  • Sufficient time must be made for social interaction and the consumption of beer and food.

If you would like to form your own SERF group, and would like guidance on the structure of the society, the format of the meetings and rules of membership, please feel free to contact us (below).
