AUTHORTHORSHIP FOR RESEARCH PUBLICATIONS

1. AIM

This document summarises the policy with regard to the rights of researchers to be listed as Authors of a publication or presentation

2. WHAT CONSTITUTES AUTHORSHIP?

Who qualifies for listing as an Author?
All those who have made a significant contribution to the preparation of a research paper will be entitled to listing as Authors. Under most circumstances simply suggesting a topic for research will not qualify for Authorship

WHO is 1st Author?
The Author who has done the majority of the work in the preparation of a paper is the First Author. Where two or more Authors are regarded as having contributed equally if they cannot agree on an order alphabetical order of surname applies.

What constitutes a significant contribution?
A significant contribution includes preparation of and review of the research protocol and or submission to ethics committee. Collection and analysis of an appreciable part of the data and preparation end editing of the final manuscript also constitute significant contribution.

Sponsors
This includes commercial sponsors who are not normally be listed as Authors but will be acknowledged.

Facilitators
Are associated clinicians who allow access to their patients but make no other contributions to a project. They are not normally be listed as Authors but will be acknowledged

Non medical contributors
Listed as Authors using the same criteria as medical Authors

Review of Manuscripts
Review of manuscripts for typographic errors only does not constitute grounds for Authorship
