In my capacity as Shoulder & Elbow Fellow, I have I have gained skills and experience in performing advanced shoulder arthroscopic surgery, shoulder reconstruction and shoulder trauma surgery. I have also assisted in numerous rare and complex shoulder procedures. In addition, I have had the opportunity to develop skills in diagnostic shoulder ultrasound and outcome assessments.
I have also had the opportunity and privilege to work in an efficient multidisciplinary shoulder service with close links with local GPs and national specialists. In line with the development of Primary Care Trusts I would like to develop or contribute towards a shoulder and elbow service to compliment and expand on an Upper Limb Service. I would like to develop a service that not only includes the Upper Limb surgeons and specialist therapists, but also involves community therapists, GPs and allied specialties. All these people are involved in an individual patient’s care and should ideally be working together. With the advent of Primary Care Trusts, specialist therapists, nurse practitioners, clinical governance and network technology this is the ideal time to offer this service.
I routinely record and monitor the events and outcomes of all my patients, using software that I have been developing myself. This makes Clinical Governance and Audit much easier. This data is also be used for clinical research purposes.
I regularly keep up to date in my field and intend take a prominent role in the future.
Ultimately I try provide a service of best practice to my patients, GPs, colleagues and employers.
