Arthroscopic Capsular Release

Description:

This procedure is performed for frozen shoulders, which have failed physiotherapy treatment. The tight capsule is released with a thermal probe via anterior and posterior portals. No sutures are used for closure and a sling is applied for comfort only. Movement commences immediately post-op on the ward.

Complications:

Complications are rare.

Must warn patients that full recovery can be slow and the rehabilitation is just as important as the surgery. They should expect 80% benefit at 3 months after surgery and full recovery after 9 months.

Physiotherapy and injections – however most patients will have failed non-operative management before coming to surgery.
